Discovering Hidden Treasures, Savoring Spices, and Unleashing Creativity: A Nashville Saturday

Nashville, Tennessee, is a city full of life, music, and delicious food. With so many activities and attractions to choose from, it can be tough to decide how to spend a day in this vibrant city. But if you’re looking for a fun-filled Saturday itinerary, here are three activities you won’t want to miss: a visit to the Gas Lamp Antique Mall, lunch at Baja Burrito in Brentwood, and a cake decorating competition with your friends.

Gas Lamp Antique Mall is a must-visit spot for anyone looking to add some vintage charm to their home or wardrobe. With over 100 vendors spread across two floors, there’s no shortage of unique finds to discover. Whether you’re a serious collector or just enjoy browsing through antique shops, you’re sure to find something that catches your eye at Gas Lamp.

The mall is located at 100 Powell Pl in Nashville, TN, just a short drive from the city center. As you approach the mall, you’ll notice the distinctive brick building that houses Gas Lamp. It’s a large space, but don’t let that intimidate you – there’s plenty of treasures to be found.

One of the best things about Gas Lamp is the variety of vendors. Each booth is carefully curated by the vendor, meaning that you’re sure to find a wide range of items. Some booths specialize in specific categories like vintage clothing or antique jewelry, while others offer a mix of everything from vinyl records to old advertising signs. The mall’s website even offers a directory of vendors, so you can plan out which booths to visit ahead of time if you have something specific in mind.

As you wander through the aisles, take your time exploring each booth and keep your eyes peeled for hidden gems. Vintage clothing is a popular category, with many vendors offering a selection of pieces from the 1920s through the 1980s. You might find a beautiful beaded flapper dress, a vintage Hawaiian shirt, or a classic denim jacket.

Mid-century modern furniture is another popular category, with many vendors specializing in sleek, minimalist pieces from the 1950s and 60s. Look for iconic designs like Eames chairs or Saarinen tables, or pick up a quirky statement piece like a retro globe bar or atomic starburst clock.

For collectors, there’s no shortage of rare and unusual items to discover at Gas Lamp. Vintage toys, old advertising signs, and antique kitchenware are just a few of the categories you might come across. There are even vendors who specialize in antique medical equipment, vintage typewriters, or historic military memorabilia.

If you’re new to antique shopping, don’t be afraid to ask the vendors for help or advice. They’re often passionate collectors themselves and are happy to share their knowledge with visitors. Plus, they might have insider tips on where to find the best deals or the most interesting items.

In addition to the shopping, Gas Lamp also offers regular events and promotions. During the holiday season, the mall transforms into a winter wonderland, with festive decorations and special sales. There are also occasional pop-up markets and vendor fairs, giving shoppers even more opportunities to discover unique finds.

Overall, Gas Lamp Antique Mall is a must-visit spot for anyone with an interest in vintage or antique items. The variety of vendors and items means that there’s something for everyone, whether you’re a serious collector or just looking for a fun day out. Take your time, explore the booths, and see what treasures you can uncover at this Nashville gem.

Baja Burrito is a must-visit eatery in Nashville, and for good reason. This casual eatery is located in Brentwood and is a favorite among both locals and visitors for its fresh, flavorful Mexican food. From the moment you walk in, you’re greeted with the scent of spices and herbs, and the friendly staff makes you feel right at home.

The menu at Baja Burrito is full of tempting options, but their massive burritos are definitely the star of the show. These burritos are filled to the brim with your choice of protein, veggies, and toppings. You can choose from grilled chicken, steak, and vegetarian options like roasted veggies or black beans. The portions are generous, so you’re sure to leave feeling full and satisfied.

But the burritos aren’t the only thing that’s great about Baja Burrito. They also offer a variety of tacos, salads, and other Mexican specialties. If you’re feeling adventurous, try their signature dish, the Baja fish taco. Made with grilled tilapia, cabbage slaw, and spicy mayo, it’s a customer favorite.

One thing that sets Baja Burrito apart from other Mexican restaurants in Nashville is their commitment to using fresh, high-quality ingredients. They source their produce locally whenever possible and use hormone-free meats. They also offer plenty of vegetarian and vegan options, making it a great spot for anyone looking for healthy, flavorful food.

After lunch, head over to the nearby Radnor Lake State Park for a scenic hike. Located at 1160 Otter Creek Rd, Nashville, TN 37220, this park is a peaceful oasis in the middle of the city. The park is home to a 85-acre lake and a variety of hiking trails that wind through the surrounding woods and hills.

The trails at Radnor Lake range in difficulty from easy to moderate, so there’s something for everyone. Whether you’re looking for a leisurely stroll or a more challenging hike, you’ll find plenty of options here. The park is also home to a variety of wildlife, including deer, wild turkeys, and songbirds, so keep your eyes peeled as you explore.

One of the most popular trails at Radnor Lake is the Lake Trail, which takes you on a scenic loop around the lake. This trail is relatively easy and is a great option for families with kids or anyone looking for a leisurely hike. Along the way, you’ll enjoy beautiful views of the lake and the surrounding woods.

Another great trail at Radnor Lake is the Ganier Ridge Trail. This trail is more challenging than the Lake Trail, but the views from the top are worth the effort. From the top of the ridge, you’ll enjoy sweeping views of the park and the city skyline in the distance.

Whether you’re looking for a peaceful place to unwind or a challenging hike, Radnor Lake is a great spot to spend an afternoon. And with its convenient location just a short drive from Baja Burrito, it’s the perfect way to work off your lunch and enjoy some fresh air before heading back to the city.

Once you’ve had your fill of delicious Mexican food, it’s time for the main event – a cake decorating competition! Gather your friends and head back to your home or Airbnb for a fun and creative afternoon.

To set up the competition, you’ll need to gather a few supplies. Pick up a variety of cake decorating tools like frosting bags, tips, and spatulas. You’ll also need some basic ingredients like cake mix, frosting, and food coloring.

Divide into teams and assign each team a theme or challenge. For example, you could ask each team to create a cake inspired by their favorite TV show, or challenge them to make a cake using only three colors. Once the teams have their challenge, give them a set amount of time to decorate their cakes.

As the teams work, you can have some fun with music, snacks, and drinks. Put on some lively tunes and offer a selection of beverages like soda, wine, or beer. And of course, have plenty of cake and frosting available for tasting and snacking.

Once the cakes are finished, have each team present their creation and explain their inspiration or process. You can award prizes for categories like “best overall,” “most creative,” or “most delicious.”

A cake decorating competition is a fun and interactive way to spend an afternoon with friends. Plus, you’ll end up with some delicious and beautiful desserts to enjoy!

In conclusion, a Saturday in Nashville can be filled with a variety of exciting activities. By visiting the Gas Lamp Antique Mall, you can explore a treasure trove of unique finds and vintage items. Baja Burrito in Brentwood is the perfect spot for a satisfying lunch and delicious Mexican food. And finally, hosting a cake decorating competition with your friends is a creative and fun way to spend the afternoon.

Girls Night in Nashville: Dinner, Dessert, and Drinks

Have you ever been with your friends, stuck in an endless cycle of: “what do you want to do?”, “I don’t know what do you want to do?” Well wonder no more! For this blog post we will be giving you a night itinerary for the day of a life of a local Nashvillian. We don’t want to settle for any old tourist attraction with those woohoo girls or the dirty Jason Aldeans, we want something that is a vibe.

Luckily for us, Nashville, Tennessee is known for its vibrant music scene and southern hospitality, but it also has a thriving food and drink culture. For a fun and delicious girls night out, we are going to start your evening in Edghill. But why Edghill you ask? Well, we’ll fill you in on a little history lesson that shows you just the beginning of how cool this area is.

The Edgehill neighborhood in Nashville is known for its charming mix of historic homes and trendy businesses, and the shops and restaurants in the area are housed in some unique and unexpected buildings. One of the most notable is the old factory building that now houses the Cookie Dough Shop and other businesses. Originally built in the early 20th century as a factory for the White Sewing Machine Company, the building was later used for various industrial purposes before being renovated and transformed into a vibrant retail space. Today, visitors to Edgehill can stroll through the repurposed factory building and enjoy a variety of shops and eateries, each with its own distinct personality and style.

Now that we know where we are headed, follow along to learn where else the night takes you, keep reading for more!!

Dinner at Sadie’s

Sadie’s is a cozy, welcoming restaurant located in the heart of Edgehill. Their menu features Mediterranean food that is both healthy, flavorful, and hearty. Their drink menu includes a variety of craft cocktails, wine, and beer. The atmosphere is casual and laid-back, with a cozy and welcoming feel. As soon as you walk in you will notice chandeliers hanging everywhere with dim lighting and a cozy appeal. It is classy, yet relaxed, providing a perfect environment to get dressed up, but still be able to gab and share all of the latest gossip with your girlfriends.

For my dinner, I ordered a simple meal of chicken and rice and pita bread. Don’t be fooled, while you might be thinking: why would I go to a restauraunt and spend money on something as simple as that? It actually was the best meal I’ve ever had, and I would absolutely go back and have it again. The combination of herbs and dressings they give you for you to experiment with the pita and chicken, seeing which combinations make it better, bring out a world of flavor you didn’t know was possible! They had a burnt orange hummus looking sauce and also some greenery. If you ask me the name of the stuff it was, I couldn’t tell you other than the fact that it left my taste buds leaping for joy!

I then paired this meal with one of their fine cocktails. I ordered the Blackberry Side car. This included: Metaxa Brandy, Cointreau, blackberry, honey, and lemon. It had the perfect amount of not being too sweet, but still feeling like a delicious and refreshing dessert. It also came in the cutest glass with an accent on it, making you feel booje. If a blackberry kind of drink doesn’t suite your fancy? No worries! They also have many other classic drinks such as a fall Sangria, a classic Spritz, an old fashioned, and a Manhattan. My friend had ordered their froze, which includes a raspberry, pomegranaete, and vanilla twist, and I do have to say it competed with my Blackberry Side Car as an all time favorite!

Once we finished gabbing away and eating, we then decided it was time to go on to our next stop! Once you exit the restauraunt, right across the hallway is a cookie dough shop.

Cookie Dough Shop in Edgehill

As you cross the hall to make a stop at the Cookie Dough shop, you’ll be greeted by a bright hot pink sign on an ivory wall that is great for pictures and posts. The Cookie Dough Shop in Edgehill offers a variety of tempting flavors of raw cookie dough, all made with high-quality ingredients and without eggs or other raw ingredients that could be harmful to eat. Classic chocolate chip is always a popular choice, but you can also indulge in flavors like peanut butter cup, oatmeal raisin, and sugar cookie. If you’re feeling adventurous, try the unicorn dough, a bright and colorful blend of vanilla sugar cookie dough with rainbow sprinkles, or the lemon blueberry, a tangy and sweet combination that’s perfect for spring. No matter what you choose, you’ll be treated to a creamy, smooth texture and plenty of rich, decadent flavor. They also offer milkshakes and other sweet treats. The shop is colorful and fun, making it a great spot for photos. In addition, you will find games on the table, making it perfect for a little sit down activity to pass the time.

Once we had our cookie dough and fun, we decided to finish off the night at a speakeasy and hidden bar.

Drinks at Old Glory

Walk down another hallway and up a stair case that leads to a mysterious door, you will find a speakeasy-style bar located in a former boiler room. The entrance is unmarked, so look for the wooden door next to the Patterson House in Midtown. Once inside, you’ll be transported to another era with dim lighting, leather booths, and vintage decor. We walked in, and to your right over the railing you could see a whole room of people, laughing, talking, going on first dates, or hanging with friends. Bottles lit up hang above the bar, giving the room a cave like feel as the colors reflect against the wall.

As we sat down we were greeted by a server who knew everything about every drink. Unexperienced and don’t know what you like? No problem! She helped guide and teach us what different kind of drinks and combinations had to offer! Their drink menu features classic cocktails like the Old Fashioned and the Manhattan, as well as more modern creations. The bartenders are skilled and can make recommendations based on your preferences. If you’re feeling peckish, they also offer small plates like deviled eggs and beef tartare.

I got a pineapple drink, while my friend got a spicy drink, and it was an amazing experience. They come out and serve it to you one a wooden platter. Great for pictures and being in the high booths that stretch out into walls, it gave the feel of privacy and like you are in your own little world.

In conclusion, a girls night in Nashville doesn’t have to revolve around live music (although there’s plenty of that too!). By exploring the city’s food and drink scene, you can have a memorable evening with your friends. Start with dinner at Sadie’s, satisfy your sweet tooth at the Cookie Dough shop, and finish the night with drinks at Old Glory. Cheers to a fun night out!
